The World Cleanup Day was held in Issyk-Kul

On September 18, 2021, an ecological cleanup dedicated to the World Cleanup Day organized by the Issyk-Kul Aarhus Center was held on the city beach of Cholpon-Ata.

The cleanup was attended by the Ambassador, the head of the OSCE Program Office in Bishkek-Mr. A.Rogov, Mayor of Cholpon-Ata-B. Imanbekov, deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh KR –  B.Turusbekov, divers of the “Clean Issyk-Kul” public fund , labor collectives of the State Institution No. 2 under the Office of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, organizations and institutions of Cholpon-Ata. The purpose of the cleanup was to draw public attention to the problems of climate change, the impact of waste on nature, and the preservation of the cleanliness of Lake Issyk-Kul.

The manager of the Issyk-Kul Aarhus Center S. Tursunakunov gave the participants brief information about the World Cleanup Day and introduced the participants.

The Ambassador, Head of the OSCE Program Office in Bishkek, Mr. A. Rogov, expressed gratitude to all the participants, expressing the opinion that maintaining the cleanliness of Lake Issyk-Kul is everyone’s duty and urged the participants to actively participate in this cleanup.

The Mayor of Cholpon-Ata, B. Imanbekov, expressed gratitude to the Issyk-Kul Aarhus Center for organizing such cleanips, noting that the center together with such partners as the Clean Issyk-Kul Public Foundation are doing a great job to clean up the lake from garbage and presented a letter of gratitude on behalf of the Cholpon-Ata City Hall to the Clean Issyk-Kul Public Foundation.

Deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic B. Turusbekov informed about the adopted regulatory and legislative acts on the conservation of Lake Issyk-Kul. He spoke about his initiative to introduce laws of the Kyrgyz Republic on the prohibition of the import, production, manufacture, sale and use of synthetic fishing nets in the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Then, with the financial support of the OSCE Program Office in Bishkek, the participants were given gloves and garbage bags. Then the participants of the event continued the clean-up work in the allocated and assigned areas.

Divers of the “Clean Issyk-Kul” PF got about 1 ton of various garbage in 28 bags from the bottom of Lake Issyk-Kul, and those who participated in the garbage collection on the lake shore collected more than 1.5 tonnes of garbage.

A clean-up dedicated to the World Cleanup Day was held in all ayil okmotus of the Issyk-Kul region.

At the end of the clean-up, the Ambassador, Head of the OSCE Program Office in Bishkek, Mr. A. Rogov, visited the office of the Issyk-Kul Aarhus Center, where he exchanged views on the activities and work plans of the Issyk-Kul Aarhus Center.
