Discussion on the implementation of the SDGs on water resources

On June 17, 2021, in the conference hall of the Plaza Hotel, the Aarhus Center in Bishkek, together with the Global Water Partnership (GWP), with the support of the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek, held a round table on “Raising awareness of stakeholders on the implementation of the SDG points”. The main task of the round table was to discuss the use of water resources in Kyrgyzstan. The round table was attended by employees of the State Water Resources Agency under the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Regional Development of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Agency for Hydrometeorology under the Ministry of Emergency Situations, members of the Kyrgyz part of the Secretariat of the Chui-Talas Water Management Commission, the Association of Water Users under the State Water Resources Agency, representatives of public organizations, universities and civil society.

At the beginning of the round table, the head of the Aarhus Center made a welcoming speech and briefly presented information about the activities of the network of Aarhus Centers in Kyrgyzstan.

The main speakers were the coordinator of the Global Water Partnership for Kyrgyzstan, K. A. Musabayeva, and the head of the Kyrgyz part of the Secretariat of the Chui-Talas Water Management Commission, G. S. Satymkulova.

Ms. Musabayeva K.A. presented to the participants of the round table a presentation on the UN report “The Value of Water”, dedicated to the issues of water resources of our planet. This report was presented by the UN at a regular meeting of the UN Security Council advisory group and released for study by all interested parties of the countries.

Ms. Satymkulova G. S. presented a presentation on “Implementation of the SDG 6.5.1 and 6.5.2 direction plans”. In this presentation, she provided extensive information on the work done by the Chui-Talas Water Management Commision secretariat to implement the above-mentioned SDG items. This report was adopted last year in 2020 and approved by both state bodies of Kyrgyzstan and international organizations.

After the presentations, the participants of the round table discussed presented information materials presented and raised numerous questions and made some suggestions. At the end of the meeting participants made a group photo.
