JUNE 5 – WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

On June 2, 2021, an ecological action dedicated to World Environment Day was held in the Ecological Park named after Zh. Bakiyev in the city of Jalal-Abad.

This event is organized by the Aarhus Center in Osh as part of the project of the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek “Promoting Green Economy and Environmental Management”.

The action was attended by representatives of the Jalal-Abad Territorial Administration of the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry, the Jalal-Abad Regional Committee for Youth Affairs, public associations “Orchun”, “Alan-Too” and local residents. A total of 31 participants took part.

Director of the Aarhus Center K. Isabaev made a speech at the opening of the action. He informed the participants about the purpose of the action, about the activities of the Center for the implementation of the Aarhus Convention.

Head of the Jalal-Abad Territorial Administration of the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry S. Tomaev congratulated the participants on the World Environment Day and on the professional holiday of environmental protection specialists. One of the main activities of the regional administration is to increase green areas and landscaping in this ecological park. He also expressed support from the TU SAEP and LH for the expansion and greening of ecological parks.

One of the founders of the Ecological Park named after him. Bakieva, chairman of the public association “Alan Too” G. Soronkulov told the story of the foundation of the park. He thanked the Aarhus Center for holding an annual event in this ecological park.

The Aarhus Center and the Youth Affairs Committee of the Jalal-Abad region discussed issues of cooperation in the field of environmental protection and the signing of a memorandum. They discussed joint measures to activate youth and students in environmental protection.

Before the end of the event, the specialists of the Aarhus Center informed the participants about the problems associated with waste management and about the motto of 2021 declared by the UN – “Time for Nature”. The participants were informed about the decision of the UN General Assembly in 1972 to proclaim June 5 World Environment Day, which has become the main one in the international ecological calendar. On June 5, 1972, the Stockholm World Conference of Heads of State established a special organization – the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).

At the end of the campaign, participants were given three types of posters about animals, birds and plants listed in the Red Book of the Kyrgyz Republic, published by the OSCE Program Office in Bishkek, T-shirts and information booklets about the “World Environment Day”.

At the end, the director of the Aarhus Center K. Isabaev thanked all the participants for their active participation.
