ACCESS TO ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION

One of the primary obligations under the Aarhus Convention – providing free access to environmental information and therefore responsible for its collection and dissemination. Each person may request any environmental information, which is at any public or private entity, performing functions related to rendering services to the population.

According to the approved strategic plan for development of Aarhus Centers in the Kyrgyz Republic during 2015-2018 years, the main tasks for the implementation of the Aarhus Convention on access to environmental information are:

  • promote an open and timely access to environmental information to the wider public;
  • Effective involvement of the media to highlight environmental issues and practical implementation of the principles of the Aarhus Convention in Kyrgyzstan.

For realization, these objectives the following events are provided:

  • organize information campaigns on important environmental issues, and challenges with a focus on conflict prevention, associated with the use of natural resources among the local population, decision-makers, the media and NGOs;
  • to promote and implement the principles of the Shared Environmental Information System (SEIS);
    involve local media to create columns of environmental programs, broadcasts, publications socio – economic nature;
  • conduct thematic Festivals – Contests Environmental Journalism at the national, regional levels, as well as regional/cross-border level on issues of ecological safety and rational use of natural resources;
  • Establish and regularly update information on ecological stands in public places to provide access to environmental information of the local population in the regions of the Kyrgyz Republic;
  • Conduct trainings / seminars / training courses on access to environmental information to the public.
