Seminar on the Effective Use of Wastewater Treatment Facilities
On June 26, 2025, a seminar on “Effective Use of Wastewater Treatment Facilities in the Recreation Zones of Issyk-Kul Oblast” was held in Cholpon-Ata, Issyk-Kul region.
The event, organized by the Issyk-Kul Aarhus Centre in cooperation with the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic, brought together representatives of state institutions, heads of recreation zones, sanitary and technical specialists, as well as civil society representatives and experts in wastewater treatment. The seminar’s goal was to increase the efficiency of wastewater treatment plant operation, identify problems in their technical maintenance, and develop practical solutions.
The seminar was opened by Mirslav Amankulov, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic, and M. Kyshtoobaev, Head of the Ministry’s Regional Department for Issyk-Kul Oblast. They emphasized the growing ecological burden on Issyk-Kul due to increasing tourist flow and the importance of proper wastewater treatment.
During the event, reports were presented on the activities of the Issyk-Kul Aarhus Centre in the region (S. Tursunakunov), on the application of various types of wastewater treatment plants used at tourist facilities (T. Mederbekov from BinTek LLC, Ch. Namatov from ECO Start LLC), and problems in their operation, such as a shortage of qualified specialists and a lack of monitoring of treated water quality (K. Baitikov and U. Bekturganov, wastewater treatment specialists), were highlighted.
Seminar participants received all necessary information on modern approaches to operating wastewater treatment plants and the possibilities of applying new technologies. In conclusion, proposals were put forward for regular staff training, the creation of specialized technical service centers, and strengthening interaction with local self-government bodies.
