Training for the staff of the Jalal-Abad region on the protection and use of flora and fauna

On September 5, 2017, in the village of Kara-Alma, with the financial support of the OSCE Program Office in Bishkek, a training was held on the protection and use of flora and fauna, attended by members of the Kara Alma foresty and the Jalal-Abad Territorial Department of Environmental Protection of SAEPF.

This training was conducted by the Information Aarhus Center in Osh together with the Jalal-Abad Territorial Department of Environmental Protection of the SAEPF in the framework of the project “Strengthening Environmental Security in Kyrgyzstan through the Green Economy, Natural Disaster Reduction and Implementation of the Aarhus Convention”, implemented with the support of the OSCE.

A total of 20 people participated in this training.

In the beginning, the employees of the Aarhus Center in Osh presented the activities of the Center for the implementation of the Aarhus Convention in the Kyrgyz Republic.

The training covered regulatory legal acts in the field of environmental protection and environmental safety. During the training, the implementation of the requirements of the laws “On Environmental Protection”, “On Forestry”, “Water”, “Land Code” and “On Administrative Liability” were discussed. Employees of the Jalal-Abad territorial administration of Environmental Protection and the Kara-Alma foresty told about the problems of forest protection, which currently exist.

The head of Orchun NGO Chataev A. presented his four-year experience of artificial afforestation on the sites of Kyr-Zhol, Chon-Bel-Bashat, Chonot and Kosh-Tektir with a total area of 110 hectares in the village of Elai-Talaa in Osh region. Also, the lack of awareness of the population on the legal and regulatory acts of environmental protection was noted.

At the end of the training, the participants discussed the experience of preserving forests, the problems of using natural resources. Employees of the Kara Alma foresty and Kara Alma village offered to conduct trainings on the normative legal acts for the population of the Kurmanbek and Kara Alma villages. The representative of the Jalal-Abad territorial department of environmental protection, Toktonazarov E. asked to conduct trainings for the staff of the media of Jalal-Abad region on issues of informing the population in the field of environmental protection.

At the end of the training, the participants were awarded certificates and distributed the following manuals:

  5. Practical recommendations for conducting public monitoring of the state of the environment
