On August 8, 2025, the Aarhus Centre in Bishkek, in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic and UNDP Kyrgyzstan, held a Validation Roundtable to discuss the draft First Biennial Transparency Report (BTR 1). This event took place within the framework of the UNDP Kyrgyzstan project “Support to Kyrgyzstan for the Preparation and Submission of Biennial Transparency Reports (BTR 1) and the Fifth National Communication (NC5) in accordance with the requirements of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).” The project is financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), one of the main operating entities of the UNFCCC financial mechanism, and is jointly implemented with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kyrgyzstan. It aims to support Kyrgyzstan’s preparation of regular reports under the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement.

As part of this project, Kyrgyzstan will receive support for its first BTR and fifth NC, with subsequent preparation of the second BTR, and their submission to the UNFCCC in accordance with UNFCCC reporting requirements and national development goals. Additionally, the country will be supported in conducting a self-assessment to prepare a project proposal for future BTRs and NCs.

The discussion involved stakeholders from various sectors of government and departmental structures, academia, the international community, public organizations, and the expert community. At the end of the roundtable, numerous questions were asked, comments were noted, and proposals were given to the expert group, which will process them and present the final materials at the end of the month at the 2nd Validation Roundtable.
