On May 7, 2015 in city Bishkek was conducted official opening of Aarhus Center in Bishkek.

Aarhus Center in Bishkek was created on the basis of signed Memorandum on mutual understanding between the State agency of environmental protection and forestry at the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and Center OSCE in Bishkek in 23 December 2014, according to the order of Government of Kyrgyz Republic of December 17, 2015, № 579-р.

The aim of creation of Aarhus Center is the quality improvement of principles and obligations, proclaimed in the Aarhus Convention “On the access of information, on public participation in decision-making process and on access to justice on the questions, concerning ecological environment” in 2001, (The law of KR of 12.01.2001. №5).

The Center is registered as Foundation “Aarhus Center” in Bishkek.

Aarhus Center closely cooperates with governmental structures, such as regional and city state administration, State agency of environmental protection and forestry at the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic , the Ministry of emergency situations of the Kyrgyz Republic , the State inspectorate for ecological and technical safety at the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, NGO, the international organizations, Higher education institutions and other institutes to promote the solution of a number of environmental problems.

The center will create conditions of operational access to ecological information, will increase the potential of the state support in ensuring more active participation of the public in decision-making, and will help to create the atmosphere of trust at interaction between various parties.

Thus, all data and information represented by the Center will have the official status that will allow improving not only reliability and quality of information, but also will allow using it at realization of the rights for access to justice.
