Round table on discussion of the draft departmental document “Instructions for employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations on the methods of informing and involving the population.”

 

 

 

 

 

On August 12, 2021, with the financial support of the OSCE Program Office in Bishkek, an on-line round table was held for residents, volunteer teachers of Green Patrol teams, representatives of local self-government bodies, deputies of local keneshes in Mailuu-Suu, Jalal-Abad oblast, v. Shekaftar, Chatkal region, v. Min-Kush of Jumgal district of Naryn region. The round table was attended by specialists from the Aarhus Center, Public Environmental Information Centers and the Center for Training and Retraining of Civil Protection Specialists of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic. The event was attended by 15 people from Mailuu-Suu, 18 people from Shekaftar, 12 people from Min-Kush. A total of 53 people took part.

This on-line round table was opened by A. Seitkazieva, Deputy Director of Agency for the Management of Tailings Dumps under the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, and gave the floor to the following experts:

The OSCE international expert T. Yunusov acquainted the participants with the purpose of the event and presented the documents “The need to conduct information work among the interested and general public and ensure public participation in the decision-making process” and “Instructions for the MES employees on methods of informing and involving the population”.

The OSCE National expert R. Beishenkulova informed the participants about the results of activities aimed at improving the level of knowledge in the field of radiation safety and regulatory and legal regulation on informing the public about issues related to radiation safety and the reclamation of uranium tailings dumps.

Director of the Aarhus Center in Osh K. Isabaev acquainted the participants with the activities of the Aarhus Center and Public Environmental Information Centers within the framework of the project “Involvement of stakeholders in solving problems related to uranium waste in Central Asia”.

During the on-line round table, the participants gave recommendations and additions. The proposals submitted by the participants will be taken into account by the experts in the preparation of these documents.
