Second preparatory meeting “Green economy as a catalyst for sustainable development and ensuring security and stability”

From June 14 to June 16, 2017, the 2nd preparatory meeting of the members of the OSCE member states, including Kyrgyzstan, was held in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana. This event visited representatives of the OSCE Center in Bishkek and head of the institution of Aarhus Center in Bishkek, Nurbekov A.K. This meeting was devoted to the theme “Green Economy as a catalyst for sustainable development and ensuring security and stability” and was a preparatory stage in anticipation of the 25th Economic and Environmental Forum of the OSCE to be held in September this year in Prague (Czech Republic).

On the first day of the visit to Astana, the organizers of the meeting organized a visit to the international exhibition EXPO 2017 “The Future of Energy”, which opened on June 10. During the visit, the participants of the meeting visited the expositions of several countries such as Germany, the Philippines, Japan, China, the USA, Russia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia and others.

Of course, the main place of visiting the exhibition was the pavilion of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which stood out from the other 8-storeyed spherical building. After the review, the official opening of the meeting was held, at which the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Kairat Abdrakhmanov, the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Christina Muttonen, the OSCE Chair in 2017, the Austrian Ambassador Florian Raining, the Coordinator of the OSCE Economic and Environmental Commission, Ambassador Vuk Zhucic, delivered their greetings.

The next day in the conference hall of the Nazarbayev University the meetings of the participants of the meeting began, which took place within 2 days. The main topics of the discussions were “Improving resource efficiency and economic ecolization”, “Promoting energy security through renewable energy sources”, “Neutralization of environmental threats to climate change and environmental degradation”. All the issues that were considered within 2 days were discussed by all participants of the meeting and recommendations were presented for consideration at the 25th Economic and Environmental Forum.
