On December 6, 2004 in city Bishkek was conducted official opening of the Informational Center of Aarhus Convention. It was opened with the grant support of three organizations: OSCE, UNDP and UNEP.
Originally Center was created with an aim to promote effective realization of Aarhus Convention, which was adopted on June 25, 1998 at the fourth conference of ministry of environment of European countries in city Aarhus(Denmark)ю
The Aarhus Convention is a convention on protection of environment of absolutely new type, and is a big step toward both protection of environment and development of democracy. It develops the rights of the public to participate in formation and realization of environmental policy and will lead to improvement of environment for all of us.
Today the Center is registered as Public Fund “Ecological Development” and the sphere of our activity is expanded. PF in close cooperation with state structures, such as the regional and city state administrations, the State agency of environmental protection and forestry at the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Ministry of emergency situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, with NGO, the international organizations, Higher education institutions and other institutes promotes the solution of a number of environmental problems.
From the moment of Center’s creation number of activities were carried out having not only local and national value, but also activities across all Fergana Valley, therefore the center also is a venue of regional meetings on discussion and the solution of the questions concerning environmental problems across all Fergana Valley. Hereby, in Aarhus Center were conducted the series of the seminars and meetings organized by an initiative “Environment and safety”.
The center is located in Osh, Kurmanzhan-Datka Str., 224A, 5 floor, 15-16 office.
