Round table discussion on the transformation of land for landfills of municipal solid waste (MSW) in the city of Batken.
On October 28, 2021, a round table was held at the Batken City Hall. This event was organized by the Aarhus Center of Osh city within the framework of the project “Promoting Green Economy and Environmental Management” together with the Batken Territorial Administration of the State Committee for Ecology and Climate (SCEC) of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The event was attended by specialists of the Batken Territorial Administration of the SCEC of the Kyrgyz Republic, local self-government bodies of the city of Batken and Batken district, a representative of the Tazalyk enterprise. A total of 15 people participated.
At the opening of the round table, the Director of the Aarhus Center K. Isabaev spoke and informed the participants about the activities of the Aarhus Center and the events held in the Batken region.
The specialist of the Aarhus Center, A. Matisaev, provided detailed information about the current state of solid waste landfills in the Batken region, marked on the ecological map of the site www.ecomap.kg . He also familiarized the participants with the temporary provisions on land transformation, laws and regulations in the field of waste management.
Representatives of the territorial administration of the SCEC noted that 42 landfills are located in the Batken region. Of these, the documents of only 10 polygons are fully prepared and issued in accordance with the legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic. The remaining 32 landfills were recommended by the relevant authorities to assess the impact on the environment, human health and prepare documents in accordance with the legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Expert Murzaev H. noted that the work on land transformation has become much easier and informed the participants about the procedure for preparing documents for the transfer of land for the landfill.
The head of the Batken territorial administration of the SCEC KR Umarov B. informed about the activities of the committee. He also noted that with the financial support of the PF “Nature Development” under the SCEC of the Kyrgyz Republic, special equipment for waste disposal was purchased for the Tazalyk enterprise in the amount of 1 million soms and ballot boxes were installed in the amount of 540 thousand soms.
During the discussion, the head of the Batken enterprise “Tazalyk” asked the Batken Territorial Administration of the SCEC of the Kyrgyz Republic to help in the construction of a room for workers and a security guard, a bookkeeper at the expense of the public fund “Development of Nature” at the landfill.
The participants asked the Aarhus Center to prepare handouts and conduct training on the species of animals, birds and plants listed in the Red Book of the Kyrgyz Republic found on the territory of the Batken region.
During the meeting, Batken TV prepared special information and showed it in an informational news program.
At the end of the round table , the Director of the Aarhus Center expressed his willingness to cooperate with interested parties .
