Round table to discuss the issues of separate collection and processing of municipal solid waste (MSW) in the city of Batken.
On June 8, 2023, a round table was held in the conference hall of the Batken City Hall. This event was organized by the Aarhus Center of the city of Osh within the framework of the OSCE project “Promoting the Green Economy and Environmental Management” together with the Batken Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision (BRD MNRETS) of the Kyrgyz Republic.
This event was attended by specialists from the BRD of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic, the mayor’s office of Batken, Kara-Bulak and Dara ayil okmotu, enterprises Batken-Tazalyk, Kara-Bulak tazalyk, owners of the processing enterprises “Batken taza”, “ECO-Batken”, heads of Maksat districts, Bulak-Bashy, Kyzyl-Don, Kyzyl-Zhol, Kara-Bulak, Buzhum, Batken city, Batken TV journalists, Orukzar newspapers. A total of 17 people participated.
At the opening of the round table, Vice Mayor of Batken A. Orozov, Director of the Aarhus Center K. Isabaev and Deputy Head of the BRD MNRETS KR D. Berdiev spoke.
They noted the importance of this event and informed about ongoing activities for the separate collection and processing of municipal solid waste and the disposal and management of solid waste. The representative of the BRD MNRETS KR D. Berdiev introduced the principles of the work of the Foundation for the Development of Nature.
Aarhus Center specialist A. Matisaev provided detailed information on the processing of solid waste. He also showed a documentary film “Clean Village”, which tells about ongoing activities for the processing of solid waste in Kyrgyzstan.
The MSW entrepreneur B. Mavlyanov informed about the activities of the enterprise and asked for comprehensive support from the mayor’s office of Batken and the BRU of the Ministry of Energy and Economics of the Kyrgyz Republic to organize the separate collection of solid waste.
The representative of the municipal enterprise Batken-Tazalyk A. Huseynov informed about the project of the World Bank and ARIS. Within the framework of this project, it is planned to build a small enterprise for waste processing, reclamation and fencing of a landfill, a washing station for special equipment, and construction of sites for separate collection of solid waste.
The head of the enterprise Kara-Bulak tazalyk Zh. Momunov informed about the new enterprise and its activities. Due to the lack of special equipment, he asked for assistance in leasing special equipment. He also said that work is currently underway to transform land for the landfill.
During the round table, cooperation between the heads of districts, heads of enterprises for the processing of solid waste and the municipal enterprise Batken Tazalyk was discussed. It was proposed to conclude an agreement for the removal of separately collected waste.
At the end of the round table, the round table participants asked the Aarhus Center in Osh to organize the following events:
- Assistance in carrying out explanatory work on the separate collection and processing of solid waste among the population at the regional level;
- Organize a round table in order to conclude multilateral agreements between entrepreneurs involved in the processing of solid waste at the regional level;
Information about the round table was broadcast by the socio-political newspaper “Orukzar” and Batken TV in social networks.
At the end of the round table, the director of the Aarhus Center expressed his willingness to cooperate with interested parties.
