Meeting at the KGU in Arabaeva dedicated to 100 years of women’s movement in Kyrgyzstan
The Aarhus Center in Bishkek, with the support of the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek and the assistance of the Institute of Natural Sciences and Tourism of the Kyrgyz State University named after Arabaev, held a seminar on April 30, 2025, for the teaching staff and students of the Institute, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the women’s movement in Kyrgyzstan.
Prior to the presentations, welcoming speeches were given by the Rector of the Institute of Natural Sciences and Tourism, Vice-Rector of KSU named after Arabaev G. Tazhibaeva, Head of the Department “General Biology and Teaching Technology” of the Institute M. Kyrbasheva, and Head of the Aarhus Center in Bishkek A. Nurbekov.
The seminar proved to be informative and engaging for the participants, featuring two presentations: “The Work of Aarhus Centers in Implementing the Aarhus Convention” and “The History of the Women’s Movement and Gender Policy in Kyrgyzstan.” The presenters were the Information Assistant of the Center, Karlygach Karypbek kyzy, and the Center’s Gender Expert, B. Islambekova.
Following the presentations, attendees asked questions and shared their opinions on the presented information. Particular attention was paid to the current policies of our state regarding the issues of women’s communities, women from vulnerable families, the education of children in educational institutions, and other related topics. Subsequently, an interactive game was held to test the knowledge gained about the women’s movement, and winners received prizes on behalf of the Aarhus Center.
At the end of the seminar, representatives of the Aarhus Center were presented with Letters of Appreciation on behalf of the Institute. In turn, the Aarhus Center presented a gift to the Institute’s department, congratulating them on their professional Biologist Day.
