A regional seminar on e-waste was held in Bishkek
July 6-7, Regional workshop on enhancing capacities for the environmentally sound management of waste electrical and electronic equipment through the regional delivery in Eastern Europe and Central Asia was held. The workshop was supported by the United Nations and UNEP.
The seminar was attended by representatives of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Slovakia.In addition to representatives from various countries also participated in the seminar including experts from Kazakhstan, OSCE, UNDP, UNEP and NGO. Kyrgyzstan included representatives from SAEPF.
The participants shared their experiences on the problems of waste management. In countries with economies in transition, still, there is a shortage of necessary provisions and manpower for the management of hazardous wastes.Law enforcement agencies are not always aware of the problem, although they have the authority, together with the customs authorities to carry out operations aimed at the fulfillment of the requirements in the case of illegal import of hazardous waste.Developing and industrialized countries shared they experience on non-standard recycling process and waste treatment.
