Event of the Issyk-Kul Aarhus Center

On November 15, 2024, in the Issyk-Kul district, in the village of Bosteri, in the assembly hall of the school-lyceum named after Hasan Jeenbaev, with the financial support of the OSCE Program Office in Bishkek, a round table was held on the topic “The role of youth in solving environmental problems. Raising environmental awareness and youth participation in environmental protection”, organized by the Issyk-Kul Aarhus Center.

The purpose of the round table: to increase environmental literacy, inform students and teachers about the principles of the Aarhus Convention, the activities of the Aarhus Center in the Issyk-Kul region, discuss environmental problems in the village of Bosteri and the activities carried out by government agencies.

The round table was attended by the deputy director for educational and educational work of the school-lyceum named after Hasan Jeenbaev, Elmira Abdybekova, teachers and students of grades 9-10-11.

At the beginning, the Deputy Director for Educational and Upbringing Work of the Hasan Jeenbaev School-Lyceum, Elmira Abdybekova, gave a welcoming speech, calling on students to actively participate and thanked the staff of the Issyk-Kul Aarhus Center for organizing the round table.

Then the manager of the Issyk-Kul Aarhus Center, Sulaiman Tursunakunov, spoke in detail about the Aarhus Convention, the principles, the Aarhus centers of Kyrgyzstan, the goals of creating the centers, and the activities of the Issyk-Kul Aarhus Center for 2022-2023 and answered the students’ questions.

After that, the information assistant of the Issyk-Kul Aarhus Center, Saltanat Orozogazieva, gave a presentation on the topic “The Impact of Polluted Environment on Human Health and Waste Classification” and spoke about air pollution factors and types of waste.

After the presentation, the students were shown videos about the state of the coastal zone of Lake Issyk-Kul, the garbage scattered on the bottom of the lake and the work to clean it up.

The round table ended with a discussion of environmental problems in the village of Bosteri, ways to solve them and answers to questions.
