Information on radiation safety, training for volunteers
June 07-09, 2017, with the financial support of the OSCE Program Office, Aarhus Centre in Osh orginized training for volunteer-trainers in Mailuu-Suu village and Shekaftar village of Jalal-Abad region on radiation safety within the framework of the project “Involvement of stakeholders in solving problems related to uranium waste in Central Asia”.
20 people took part in the training.
The training was opened by the Director of the Aarhus Center in Osh city K. Isabaev. He gave detailed information about the project, the important role of volunteers in disseminating information. T.Zhumabekov acquainted the participants with the history, principles, goals and elements of the “Aarhus Convention”.
The training was conducted by the employee of the Institute of Medical Problems J. Madykova. In the training sessions, she about background radiation, background radiation standards, the impact of uranium waste on the environment, the principles of safe handling of radioactive waste, the sanitary norms and rules in uranium production facilities, the effects of radiation on the human body, the recommendations of the Institute of Medical Problems on health protection, the radiation protection system and the legislative base of the Kyrgyz Republic in the field of radiation safety.
Heads of Public Environmental Information Centers in Mailuu-Suu and Shekaftar village B. Botobekov, A. Mamasaliyev told about the work done by the centers for 2016-2017 within the framework of the project “Involvement of stakeholders in solving problems related to uranium waste in Central Asia”.
At the end of the training participants asked various questions on which was answered by trainers. So, as the teachers and teachers of schools and lyceums were volunteers in biology, chemistry, ecology and physics, the training for them was understandable and interesting.
Upon completion of the training, the participants agreed to volunteer, contribute to the implementation of the project and give the knowledge gained from the training to students.
