Seminar “Involvement of stakeholders in solving problems related to uranium tailings in Central Asia”
On November 28-29, 2017, the OSCE organized a seminar on the sharing of experiences within the framework of the regional project of the Environment and Security Initiative, funded by the EU “Involvement of Stakeholders in Solving Problems Related to Uranium Tailings in Central Asia.”
Representatives of the following organizations attended the seminar:
OSCE, UNDP, UNEP, the Russian Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic, the EU Delegation to the Kyrgyz Republic, the representative of the European Commission, SAEPF, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the public environmental information centers of Jalal-abat and Naryn region, Aarhus Center of Osh city, PF “Ecois-Bishkek”, PA “Amir”
Representatives of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan were also invited in the following composition: Sogd Region Environmental Protection Department, Department for Monitoring and Environmental Policy of the Republic of Tatarstan, Aarhus Centre in Hujand and Dushanbe, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Uzbekistan. TV “Yntymak” in Osh and “Internews Europe” in the Kyrgyz Republic was representative of media.
At the seminar the participants made presentations on the project, where they discussed the main achievements, the experience gained during the project implementation. And also, participation of local population, cooperation of local self-government bodies with Public Environmental Information Centers, participation of mass media and journalists were discussed.
On November 29, an internal coordination meeting on the project was organized. The meeting summed up the results of the identified problems and lessons learned during the implementation of the project. The plans for second phase were also discussed.
