The Aarhus Center in Bishkek conducted environmental monitoring
From May 13 to 16, the Aarhus Center in Bishkek, together with the Department of Environmental Monitoring under the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic, with the support of the OSCE Program Office in Bishkek, conducted on-site monitoring studies of the state of the environment at landfill sites in the cities of Naryn, Kemin and Talas.
Such studies were carried out 3 years ago and now the Aarhus Center intends to study the existing changes and possible consequences. During the research, samples of soil, surface and waste water around the landfills were taken to analyze heavy metals and harmful substances that have an impact on human health and the environment. The received materials will be examined in the laboratory of the Department of Environmental Monitoring, based on the results of which recommendations will be prepared for action by the relevant authorities.
