Trainings in Mailuu-Suu and Shekaftar
On December 02, 04, 2020, in the city of Mailuu-Suu and the village of Shekaftar, trainings “Raising awareness of the population living near tailing dumps and radioactive waste on radiation safety issues” were held.
It was attended by members of the Working Commission, villagers, representatives of local self-government bodies, civil society and youth.
At the training, trainer R. A. Beishenkulova and employees of the Center for Training and Retraining of Civil Protection Specialists under the Ministry of Emergencies of the Kyrgyz Republic E. Egemberdieva, M. Ergeshov considered and discussed the following topics:
- The influence of radiation on the human body and their consequences; Ensuring radiation safety of the population of the Kyrgyz Republic;
- Review of the current situation, positive aspects of ongoing projects for the remediation of uranium legacy sites at the Min-Kush, Mailuu-Suu, Shekaftar sites;
- The main directions for the development of the program of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic “Program / action plan for 2021-2024 to involve and inform the population in issues related to radiation safety and reclamation of uranium tailings”;
- Brief results of the survey among the population and the interested public living in the immediate vicinity of the uranium heritage sites. The trainers used interactive methods, there were questions and answers.

During the trip, the director of the Aarhus Center in the city of Osh K. Isabaev met with the directors of 9 secondary schools and volunteer leaders of the Green Patrol teams in the city of Mailuu-Suu and the village of Shekaftar. At the meetings, the plans of the Green Patrol teams were discussed, the results of the drawing competition were summed up and prizes were delivered to the winners.
