A seminar on poaching was held in Karakol

On September 2, 2022, a round table on the topic was held in the conference hall of the Plenipotentiary Representation of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Issyk-Kul region in the city of Karakol: “Poaching problems in Issyk-Kul region. The negative impact of poaching on the biodiversity of the region” organized by the Issyk-Kul Aarhus Center,  “Clean Issyk-Kul” public fund.

The round table was attended by: U. Daliev – 1-Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic in Issyk-Kul region, K. Dzhumagaziev-Head of the Department of Internal Affairs of Issyk-Kul region, K.Suyundukov -I.O. Directors of the Issyk-Kul Biosphere territory, U.Bekturganov – Head of the Environmental Expertise Department of the Issyk-Kul Regional Department of the Issyk-Kul Regional Administration, T.Dyushebaev-Chief Legal Specialist of the Issyk-Kul Regional State Administration, A.Imanbekov – Representative of the Department of Protection and Development of Fisheries Department of Fisheries for Issyk-Kul-Naryn regions, p.Tursunakunov is the manager of the Issyk-Kul Aarhus Center, A.Shamsutdinov is the chairman of the Clean Issyk-Kul NGO, N.Usmanbetov is the Anti-Corruption Supervision NGO, K.Shayymbekov is an expert lawyer of Eco-World.

During the round table, the participants gave detailed information about the ongoing anti-poaching activities and answered the questions of the participants. According to the results of the round table, the following decisions were made:

  1. The relevant state bodies should carry out work on the preservation of cultural heritage sites of historical significance from illegal excavations.
  2. Due to the increase in the number of jackals, cases of attacks on livestock have become more frequent – take measures to reduce the number of jackals.
  3. Strengthen the responsibility of local governments to combat poaching.
  4. Strengthen the fight against poaching in the rivers flowing into Lake Issyk-Kul.
  5. To consider the introduction of a 4-year moratorium on fishing (for all types of fishing) in Lake Issyk-Kul.
  6. Prohibit boats from entering the lake during fish spawning.

According to the decisions taken, appeals will be sent to the relevant state bodies, the public will be informed about the work done.
