Issyk-Kul Aarhus Center held a round table in Ak-Suu

On May 20, 2021, with the financial support of the OSCE Program Office in Bishkek, in the conference hall of the Ak-Suu ayil okmotu of the Ak-Suu region, a round table was held on the topic “Implementation of the principles of the Aarhus Convention in the regions. Joint work with local authorities in solving environmental problems” organized by the Issyk-Kul Aarhus Center.

The round table was attended by A. Bukarova, chief specialist of SIETS for the city of Karakol, Tyup, Ak-Suu, Jeti-Oguz districts, N. Orozobaev, leading specialist of the Issyk-Kul SAEPF, R. Sadyrova, deputy head of the Ak-Suu aiyl okmotu, ayil kenesh deputies, heads of municipal services, members of women’s councils.

A welcoming speech was made by the deputy head of Ak-Suu ayil okmotu R. Sadyrova, she briefly talked about environmental problems, the problems of clean drinking water, the state of the treatment facilities, about the work carried out by the ayil okmotu.

The manager of the Issyk-Kul Aarhus Center S. Tursunakunov made a presentation on the principles of the Aarhus Convention, the work of the center for 2019-2020 and answered questions from the participants.

The chief specialist of the SIETB for the city of Karakol, Tyup, Ak-Suu, Zheti-Oguz districts A. Bukarova gave detailed information about the work done by the territorial department for 2020, on the facts of poaching, on illegal felling of trees, on raiding activities carried out to identify the facts of violations laws.

Leading specialist of Issyk-Kul SAEPF, N. Orozobaev, briefly spoke about the work of the department, about the procedures for obtaining permits.

Deputy of the local kenesh T.Usubakunov spoke about illegal buildings being built in the water protection zone of the Ak-Suu river and asked the environmental inspection to take appropriate measures.

Deputy of the local kenesh S. Abdykerimov – the treatment plant of the Ak-Suu village was built in 1970 and was designed for 10 000 people, but with the growth of the population, the capacity of this treatment is not enough. In addition, in winter, during icy conditions, the local road maintenance agency uses fine coal for sprinkling the roads. With the arrival of spring, all these small particles rising into the air have a negative impact on human health. Also, laboratory equipment is needed to examine the quantity of the air, the lands become unusable due to the use of mineral fertilizers above the norms.

At the end of the round table, the participants expressed their gratitude to the organizers and initiated a clean-up of the Altyn-Arashan resort.
